Hematology is the medical specialty that focuses on the components of the blood (red and white blood cells, platelets), lymph, and hematopoietic organs that secrete them (bone marrow, lymph nodes, spleen), as well as the diseases related to them.

Relevant Pathologies:
  • Polyglobulia (excess of red blood cells)
  • Anemia (deficiency of red blood cells)
  • Leukemia (excess of white blood cells). This includes chronic lymphocytic leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and acute myeloblastic leukemia.
  • Leukopenia (deficiency of white blood cells)
  • Thrombocytosis (excess of platelets)
  • Thrombocytopenia (deficiency of platelets)
  • Hemophilia (a coagulation disorder)
  • Lymphoma (cancer of the lymphatic system)
  • Aplastic anemia (reduced production of blood cells by the bone marrow).
